The service also conducts ongoing monitoring of those databases for faces that may reappear after removal.
Patent-pending technology:
The company says they have achieved patent pending status with a provisional patent in the US, for its processes related to facial biometric security. The company says facial biometrics are only the first phase of the Biometric Security portfolio. The company has designed and will be offering additional biometric request removal for identifiers including eyes, fingerprint, voice, and gait, in a similar method as face.
The Problem: Cameras, surveillance, facial recognition, and face search are a growing concern for many around the globe.
Flock cameras tracking plate numbers of cars on the streets, cameras in stores tracking faces, transit systems, and apartment lobbies are all collecting different data. And now companies are letting anyone search a person and find information on them with just a photo. Once a face is in a face search system, it typically stays there indefinitely, and new images are added as they’re collected.
Millions of people are indexed in facial recognition systems, and more are added each day They never consented, and never opted in. Privacy tools on the market today focus on standard data brokers like name, address, email, phone number. They don’t work on the face itself, or on other biometrics (which FacePrivacy will be rolling out soon). And even if a face is removed from a database, it can be added again later. Or a new database can pop up overnight.
The patent-pending technology and methods:
According to the company, the system finds where a face shows up in facial recognition and face-search databases, submits removal requests, checks on the removal, and then continues monitoring the internet databases to catch and act on reappearances. Much of the patent revolves around automation or AI algorithms to maintain removals more efficiently. Face removal is an ongoing state, not a one-time action. Ongoing monitoring and removal is the key, and the company claims a brand new way to do that.
