BIODANCE New Study Finds Real Deep Mask Supports Skin Recovery Post Laser Treatment

New clinic study showcases Biodance Hydrogel’s ability to return skin to baseline hydration and barrier function after a single use. 

NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Biodance, the leading Korean beauty brand and pioneer behind the now-viral Real Deep Hydrogel Mask category and authority on hydrogel technology, has announced the results of a new clinical study examining how its signature hydrogel mask supports skin recovery immediately following laser treatment, one of the most demanding tests a skincare product can face.

Inspired by Biodance founder, Mihwa Kim’s personal journey with skin damage and recovery, an experience that led her to discover the power of hydrogel, reimagining it entirely for skincare and leading to the iconic hydrogel sheet masks taking over social media feeds.

Founded with the belief that skincare should guide you back to your best skin, this study presented by board-certified dermatologists Dr. Luke Maxfield and Dr. Christopher Tomassian, saw 32 participants undergo fractional laser, a treatment known to temporarily compromise the skin’s barrier and trigger redness and moisture loss. Using a split-face design, each participant’s face was divided down the middle with Real Deep Mask applied to one half and the other left untreated, allowing researchers to directly compare results on the same person under the same conditions.  

Following a single application of Real Deep Mask, the treated side showed evidence of: 

  • Barrier recovery: Skin’s TEWL rate returned to pre-procedure levels, while the untreated side remained elevated.  
  • Visible calming: A reduction in redness compared to the untreated side.  
  • Improved hydration: The largest change observed in the study saw skin moisture levels rise substantially above baseline, while the untreated side returned to its normal.  
  • A meaningful safety profile: Zero adverse events and dropouts across all 32 participants, even though the mask was tested on freshly lasered, sensitized skin.  
  • Strong patient satisfaction: 100% of participants reported a positive experience across all surveyed measures.  

The results were attributed to the three properties of hydrogel:  

  1. Semi-Occlusive Structure: The 3D polymer network of a hydrogel holds a large volume of water while in contact with the skin’s surface, while the hydrogel matrix still permits air flow to help avoid maceration and follicular occlusion. 
  2. Adherence as Effective Surface Layer: A viscoelastic gel follows curved surfaces (nose, nasolabial folds, jawline) that a flat carrier lifts away from. Uniform contact provided uniform TEWL reduction.
  3. Duration of Contact: Recovery from acute barrier disruption is a function of time. Unlike most topical formulations, hydrogel physically remains in position, sustaining conditions while recovery takes place.

About the study 

Study HM-P26-0933 (Final Report HM-R26-0933) was conducted by the Human Skin Clinical Trial Center Co., Ltd., under Principal Investigator Won Gyu Hong, M.D. Skin was treated with PicoSure Fraxel (picosecond Nd:YAG + fractional lens array, non-ablative) and tested via a split-face design, with half of the face treated with Biodance Real Deep Mask, while the other half was left untreated. Skin was tested before the procedure to establish a baseline, immediately following the procedure, and then after a single application. Three endpoints were measured to establish post-procedure skin recovery: Barrier Function (VapoMeter), Redness (Antera 3D), and Hydration (Epsilon E100)
